Backyard Wild Spot

Backyard Wild Spot

Animals are more than pets and curiosities in zoos. Our natural world should be experienced beyond an on-screen nature program or occasional school field trip. If you are concerned with the state of our natural resources and are ready to do something about it, we invite you to join a growing movement to build a backyard wild spot. By dedicating a portion of your private land to manage a wild spot, you will be building a safe place for wild things. Your wildlife oasis will join others across your neighborhood, your city and state to build strings of backyard wild spots. This growing web of natural corridors will help bring animal populations and the plants they help spread together when they otherwise would be stranded apart in parks and reserves. As populations freely roam and territories expand, so too will the numbers and variety of domestic wild plants, bugs, birds, and animals. Your backyard wild spot can play a part in the rebuilding of our wild America and a more wild world.

About Us

This website is written and funded by a small family in Cincinnati Ohio who has been inspired by countless others who work to support the natural world across the country and around the world. We are united in the vision that as we grow healthy new ecosystems, we can indeed grow the number and variety of domestic wild plants, bugs, birds, and animals that live in it. Whether these creatures make a backyard wild spot their home or are just passing through, the wild spot provides a stop along nature corridors that link parks and preserves together giving wild populations a chance to expand their territories and grow in numbers. Now we ask you to join the effort. Be inspired by the experience of those who have created a new backyard plan to build out a wild sport and/or permaculture garden. These strategies support local wildlife at its basic level – insects. Once we can establish this diverse and abundant foundation, we give the small and larger animals a chance to thrive once again on our private lands. Over 70% of all land in the United Stats is privately owned. It is up to use, private land owners and those who have a say in management of private business properties to do our part in the rebuilding of our wild America and a more wild world.
